City print series: Bikaner Floral
For high summer we have launched three new prints and colourways - each inspired by a different Rajhasthani city. We wanted to share a little about the travel inspiration behind each print and the little corner of India they evoke...
First up - the vibrant, dust-swirling desert Fort town of Bikaner - an outpost away from the tourist trail of Rajhasthan, dominated by the coral pink Junagarh Fort.
Within the 7km long city wall, the old town still has a medieval feel - a labyrinth of narrow streets within which to wander and get lost. Stumble across ancient, ornate temples and feel part of this sanctuary within the desert.
Beyond the city walls, the Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary at the Gajner Palace has the most stunning lake, which is home to 100s of species of migrant birds in winter. It's one of the most peaceful places we've found in India - a country renowned for its frenetic pace and vibrancy, this oasis of calm is something we wanted to capture...
Our Bikaner floral print is our beautiful neutral for this season - with a hint of on-trend lavender.
When working with our hand-block carvers outside Jaipur on the collection, we shared a whole range of floral references - from the Indian Thistle (below) to the fragrant, Indian lilac flower.
The result is this almost watercolour, vintage botanic print:
Once finalised, we had it hand-printed onto our signature super-soft cotton voile for our artisan tailors to then create our oversized boyfriend shirt, pj set, cami vest and girl's top - for some gorgeous, laid-back summer lounging.
The new print has already been scooped up by lots of you at the summer pop-ups, including the stunning Insta blogger, Emma - @s.a.s.h - we hope you love it too!
